This week Microsoft UK’s leadership team attended its annual offsite meeting for a leadership symposium that echoed a few leadership versus management themes.
First, in the keynote by managing director Gordon Frazer highlighted the need too balance ‘Ambition’ (leadership) with ‘Accountability’ (management).
In the main seminar led by the Bath Consulting Group, Peter Hawkins made a metaphorical distinction between planting and weeding which inspires the #15 Leader/Manager distinction: “Leaders plant; Managers weed. Both together yield the greatest harvest."
