Happy Emperors Day!
Seth Godin shared a metaphor from Japanese cooking in his post ‘First Make Rice’.
- “Too often, we quickly jump ahead to the new thing, failing to get good enough at the important thing.”
Bad executives want to do the ‘extra credit question’ on the exam without completing the rest of the basic questions. They want to focus on the ‘sushi’ (upside) without paying enough diligence to not getting the rice right (downside).
Leaders make sushi; Managers make rice. Both together are needed for sumptuous sushi.
