London Fashion Week starts today. And the notion of embracing failure has become quite fashionable in recent years. In fact, Caitlin Kirby has designed some fashion that literally spells out failure in every inch – “Grad Student Defends Her Dissertation in Skirt Made From Rejection Letters to ‘Normalize Failure’”:
- · “Caitlin Kirby wore a one-of-a-kind, handmade skirt to her recent dissertation defense — made out of 17 rejection letters that she had received over the last five years! The Michigan State University grad student, who has spent 4 1/2 years working towards her PhD in environmental science and policy, says she created and wore the skirt "in the spirit of acknowledging & normalizing failure" as part of the process of achieving any major goal.”
Not quite wearing failure on your sleeve, but close enough on your hem. Making failure attractive.
