- ·Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging." – Joseph Campbell
The COVID19 Crisis is likely (fingers crossed) to be the biggest “failure” economically, politically, and socially that our generation will ever experience. History is filled with such generationally defining challenges – The Great War, The Great Depression, The Great Leap Forward. The piece “Prepare for the Ultimate Gaslighting” coins the apt term, “The Great Pause” for the current test of our times:
- ·Well, the treadmill you’ve been on for decades just stopped…What happened is inexplicably incredible. It’s the greatest gift ever unwrapped. Not the deaths, not the virus, but The Great Pause. It is, in a word, profound. Please don’t recoil from the bright light beaming through the window. I know it hurts your eyes. It hurts mine, too. But the curtain is wide open. What the crisis has given us is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see ourselves and our country in the plainest of views. At no other time, ever in our lives, have we gotten the opportunity to see what would happen if the world simply stopped. Here it is. We’re in it.”
Sunday Times’ Josh Glancy also refers to “the pause” in his piece “Even a crisis of this magnitude has a silver lining – I’m having to ‘quarantine and chill’ with my girlfriend” observes…
- ·Suddenly, and without much warning, the quite extraordinary decadence of 21st century life has been paused. Our near-infinite range of choices has narrowed alarmingly…There’s a strange sense of freedom amid the terrifying constriction.”
Pause be with you!
